I am the wife of a police officer who was wrongly convicted of murder and armed robbery in Sept. of 1995. This lengthy trial (5 and l/2 weeks) was after 2 and 1/2 years of incarceration, with no bond allowed to be made. He was found guilty by a jury after 2 and 1/2 days of deliberation, and now his incarceration has stretched to 3 and 1/2 years.
My husband was well respected in the community with 33 letters of commendation in service to the Gwinnett County Police Dept. He was formerly a boy scout, a Marine, S.W.A.T. team leader (one of the original members when the team was formed and leader over all the team), accomplished in the martial art of Aikido. gym owner, body builder. homeowner, husband, father, son, uncle, brother and all around good citizen in our community.
His own police department and the district attorney’s office here would have you believe my husband shot and killed a 53 year old grandmother, while on duty, uniform. while 25 witnesses passed by on a busy highway, all for the sum of 7000 dollars in cash. Now, no weapon has ever been found, and no purse either. How can they say the woman was even robbed or that she had that kind of money on her person? I ask you.
My husband is innocent of these crimes and deserves fair justice in our system. All of the evidence was not allowed to come out in court at the circus of a trial. The truth is still nor out there. The politics in this case reek of corruption and fraud. Who is protecting whom at the expense of my loved one. The witnesses from the highway all say they saw a police officer (varying descriptions) in one form or another, so it is safe to say there was an officer there, but not my husband. Also find it noteworthy that a police officer who worked this same zone, not on friendly terms with my husband, committed suicide one week after my husbands arrest. You can believe the official version of this case, or the truth. Remember, all has not been allowed to be brought out in court.
Our children, Chad, 12, and Chelsea. 9. were 8 and 5 when this happened to their father. They are well adjusted, in the gifted program at school and trust God, their Father, to deliver their earthly father, even at this late date.
We are currently organizing our efforts toward my husband's defense including new lawyers, and a new team of investigators through the National Police Defense Foundatton. This is a non-profit organization founded by a former police officer who was wrongly convicted of a crime himself in New York City. I am appealing to your good will for help in the way of donations, however large or small, to help my husband get fair justice in the system he served so well for 8 and 1/2 years. Mike is known for solving problems on duty without ever using his gun.
